Overview

AARP Services, Inc., founded in 1999, is a wholly-owned taxable subsidiary of AARP. AARP Services manages the provider relationships for and performs quality control oversight of the wide range of products and services that carry the AARP name and are made available by independent providers as benefits to AARP’s millions of members. The provider offers currently span health products, financial products, travel and leisure products, and life event services. Specific products include Medicare supplemental insurance; credit cards, auto and home, mobile home and motorcycle insurance, life insurance and annuities; member discounts on rental cars, cruises, vacation packages and lodging; special offers on technology and gifts; pharmacy services and legal services. AARP Services also engages in new product development activities for AARP and provides certain consulting services to outside companies.

 

The primary purpose of this intern position is to support the ASI Marketing Data Science team's digital transformation initiative by modernizing our email marketing campaign executions. This role exists to streamline and automate important but repetitive tasks, aiming for full automation to enhance operational efficiency. This position is unique because it directly impacts our strategic priority of improving operational efficiency through innovative solutions. By joining our team, the intern will play a crucial role in driving our digital transformation efforts, contributing to a more efficient and effective marketing data science operation.

 

In alignment with our company's broader digital transformation strategy, this position will leverage cutting-edge technologies and data-driven approaches to revolutionize our email marketing processes. The intern will have the opportunity to work on projects that enhance operational efficiency and significantly improve the quality of our marketing campaign deliverables. This role is pivotal in ensuring that our marketing operations are modernized and optimized for maximum impact, reflecting our commitment to continuous improvement and innovation. Responsibilities

  • Hands-on experience in Databricks
  • Very proficient in Python programming
  • Working knowledge of Cloud environments, cluster optimization, and usage
  • Present results and/or analysis, typically using data visualization techniques, sometimes to broader audiences within or outside of our company

Qualifications

  • Must be enrolled in a degree program at an accredited college/university rising undergraduate juniors or seniors, graduate students, or post-doctoral students and remain academically enrolled throughout the internship and pursuing a degree in computer science, computer engineering, or related fields
  • Preference will be given to candidates enrolled in a graduate program
  • Must be a self-starter and adaptable to work under tight deadlines
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, anticipate project needs, and discern work priorities
  • Proficiency in Python, Spark, Databricks, AWS, and generative AI tools such as ChatGPT, Google Gemini, etc
  • Technical fluency in Pyspark (preferred), Python/Pandas, and SQL
  • Must have some experience (professional or college-level) dealing with big data
  • Datarbicks savvy or eager to learn new technologies
  • ML libraries like TensorFlow, PyTorch, etc
  • Communication skills – Strong organizational and communication skills
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with experience building stories and narratives out of data
  • Collaborative skills – Comfort working across multiple business teams, including both technical and non-technical partners

Hybrid Work Environment

AARP observes Mondays and Fridays as remote workdays, except for essential functions. Remote work can only be done within the United States and its territories.

 

Compensation and Benefits

The hourly range is $18 for undergraduates, $21 for graduate students, and $28 for Ph.D. candidates. Internships are non-exempt positions and are not eligible for employee benefits.
