Summary
Provides a full array of legal counsel and advice to AARP Services, Inc. and staff on issues including provider contracts, new product development, data services and new initiatives and programs. Provides legal support to staff in drafting, negotiating, analyzing, and maintaining contracts through which third parties provide benefits, products and services to AARP Members. Requires a deep understanding of the legal structure of the AARP family, as well as corporate, contract, consumer protection, advertising, data and privacy laws. Works with colleagues on matters across ASI departments, with key clients being the New Product Development team as well as the Health, Financial and Lifestyle lines of business.
Responsibilities
- Provides legal support on new product development and other innovation initiatives to ensure compliance with AARP and ASI standards.
- Supports the legal responsibility for drafting, negotiating, analyzing, and maintaining contracts for third party provided benefits, products and services for AARP Members.
- Serves as a legal representative for the New Product Development team, as well as the Health, Financial and Lifestyle lines of business.
- Provide legal support for data projects and privacy issues, as they arise.
- Provide legal input on new business relationships.
- Legal review of complex vendor agreements.
- Conduct legal research and due diligence
Requirements
- Completion of a Juris Doctorate degree, plus a minimum of 5 years of experience. Preference for specialized experience, in contract negotiation, corporate law, consumer protection, advertising, and privacy. Must be, or able to become, a member of good standing in the District of Columbia bar.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills. Ability to think on one’s feet and clearly express arguments and ideas to staff and to provide engaging, clear training for staff who may have minimal legal background.
- Ability to handle multiple, complex projects on an ongoing basis, with strong attention to detail.
