Summary Statement

AARP California has an opening for a paid internship in our Pasadena Office.


This internship position will assist our Advocacy and Community Engagement strategies and agenda, which includes:

  • Building awareness of AARP’s Advocacy and Community Engagement work through coordination of activities and project management
  • Supporting volunteers and partner organizations
  • Working on national and grassroots campaigns and initiatives
  • Providing education to help the 50+ audience learn how to stay in their homes and communities
  • Convening and engaging public officials, community organizations, and coalitions to advance state and local advocacy issues
  • Researching issues related to state and local initiatives
  • Developing materials and writing reports (ie: infographics, fact sheets, PowerPoints, etc.)



Interns must be currently enrolled in a degreed program at an accredited college or university; maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0; and be considered rising undergraduate juniors or seniors..   

Additional requirements:

  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively
  • Detail oriented
  • Able to handle multiple projects
  • Team oriented
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Intermediate to advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office, Social Media Platforms (Twitter and Facebook)


    Preferred majors include public policy, urban planning, political science, gerontology or related fields.
