Summary Statement

AARP Maryland is seeking a Communications Intern II based in our downtown Baltimore office.


We are looking for someone who can:

  • Monitor and improve our engagement on Facebook and Twitter.
  • Write blog posts, advertising copy and social media postings.
  • Assist with traditional media relations activities, such as media pitching, issue research, and press events.
  • Assist with drafting press releases, media advisories, and pitch letters.
  • Assist with development of advertising materials and placement of media buys.
  • Provide photography and videography support for AARP Maryland events.


We are looking for a graduate candidate who is digital/social media savvy and is also interested in honing their traditional communications/media relations skills with one of the nation’s largest advocacy organizations. Applicant should be able to demonstrate strong writing skills for both traditional and social media as well as moderate video editing skills. Graphic design skills a plus.


Basic knowledge of Microsoft applications, as well as Facebook and Twitter is required.  Bonus points for experience in iMovie and Canva.


Must be currently enrolled as a first or second year graduate student with a minimum GPA of 3.0.
