AARP Programs drives relevance and impact through ‘state-of-the-art’ programs and resources. Our audience-focused offerings facilitate ‘active’ engagement and interaction with consumers, with a focus on multicultural and age 50-64 members. We also work with key influencers such as industry, partners, and local leaders.
Our mode of program engagement with target consumers exists in both the virtual and the physical realm. As such, we drive both ‘distance learning’ (through digital resources/tools/e-courses/seminars) and in-community live experiences through a continuous engagement cycle.
AARP Driver Safety first launched in 1979 as the “55 Alive” program to help to keep older drivers independent, safe and confident while on the road. Today, it offers a number of educational programs including its flagship program—the nation’s largest driving refresher course designed for drivers age 50 and older. Since the program’s inception, more than 16 million participants have completed the course.
The position requires a professional capable of managing multiple priorities in dynamic environment. Requires leadership guiding the program and volunteers to higher standards of performance. Strong organization and implementation skills, tremendous focus and discipline, and a creative, innovative, and inspiring approach. Results of work will ensure that AARP Driver Safety is achieving the long-term vision and dashboard objectives.
1. Implements initiatives to build and train a diverse volunteer workforce dedicated to growing Driver Safety programs. Focus will be for all of Driver Safety programs, e.g. Smart Driver classroom course, CarFit, WNTT, Smart DriverTEK and any new products added.
2. Monitors volunteer workforce in all states taking steps necessary to ensure the program is sustainable as volunteer’s age out of the program. In collaboration with ADS Marketing implements solutions to sustain our volunteer network, grow and diversify our volunteer network, and increase volunteer engagement and communication.
3. Mentors volunteer state leadership to implement new programs, policy and procedures, succession planning, evaluation systems and recognition. In collaboration with ADS Operation partners to build and implement procedures and collaborates during on-boarding and providing ongoing service.
4. Manages focused individual state initiatives to develop and test best practices to ultimately be launched in all states, (develops goals and strategies to help states reach its distinguished goal by building new leadership structure, training implementation, maximizing marketing opportunities and by holding special recruitment events.)
5. Leads state integration efforts by identifying and fostering ways AARP Driver Safety can work more closely with state teams – State Offices and Driver Safety State Volunteers -- to drive greater collaboration on the local level and increase overall engagement/course participation.
6. Implements new volunteer structure changes, and makes recommendations to management to accommodate the seismic growth of all programs.
7. Manages the recruitment process (advertising, screening, and logistics for panel interviews, 1. appointment and on boarding) for the State Coordinator and National Advisory Council positions. In coordination with management, provides critical position training and guidance to new volunteer leaders to implement national program goals and priorities.
8. Monitors and ensures training and continuing education series, and new technology systems developed at the National level are adhered within each state.
9. Develops plans, materials and leads the New Leadership Orientation process. Selects date and location and communicates details with new leadership volunteers and staff and creates orientation materials and training. Ensures proper follow-up at the conclusion of the orientation.
10. Develops strong, collaborative organizational relationships to meet goals and objectives. To include state office staff and key internal stakeholders (i.e. Driver Safety staff, Program staff, volunteer engagement staff, IT, finance, OGC.
11. Manages, with Director oversight, all financials related to volunteer state budgets and national office related volunteer expenses. Works with finance to establish and monitor volunteer engagement and participation metrics.
12. Manages special projects to support initiatives. Provides the Director with regular and timely information on the status of projects and initiatives. Manages multiple projects that contribute to the achievement of department priorities, including large-scale programs and activities.
• Completion of a Bachelor’s degree in Management, Human Resources, and Business; or a related discipline and 3+ years of progressively responsible experience in recruitment, volunteer management, program implementation and process improvement; or an equivalent combination of training and experience related to the duties of the position.
• Experience in the area of talent acquisition, evaluation and succession planning.
• Requires ability to be creative, to analyze information, to develop, to communicate and implement initiatives.
• Work requires professional written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to motivate internal teams and volunteers to produce quality materials within tight timeframes and simultaneously manage several projects. Ability to participate in and facilitate group meetings.
• Demonstrated project management and people management skills.
• Demonstrated experience in collaborating effectively with internal and external entities to achieve maximum success. Demonstrated ability to develop and deliver on metrics for measuring success in key initiatives. Prioritizes workload and meets deadlines for a variety of "deliverables".
• Work requires willingness to work a flexible schedule and travel is required.
