Summary Statement

Our Media Sales team is based in New York and led by a four-person management team. The departments include– sales, marketing and operations. From offices in Detroit, San Francisco, Boston, Texas, Florida, Atlanta, New England and Canada, independent sales reps sell AARP media properties. Join this productive team as a Media Sales Marketing intern in summer, 2018. 


Responsibilities

Integrated Marketing

  • Help Marketing Manager send out and manage the quarterly call for “shows” and “tells” (case studies) in print + digital, compile ideas and suggestions from reps and present to Marketing Manager
  • Manage an RFP “cheat sheet” with answers to commonly asked questions
  • Compile regular reports of relevant or interesting native content among our competitors, using BrandTale
  • Proofread and act as a second pair of eyes for presentations and other materials before they are submitted to sales reps and clients
  • Help manage updates for general presentations that are available via an internal site for all sales reps
  • Find and pull stock images to use in presentations as needed
  • Find and pull past ads and editorial from AARP publications as needed

 

Research/Insights

  • Work with Insights team to cultivate category intelligence.  Conduct internet searches for current trend data on relevant categories for use in internal materials, to educate sales reps or as background for sales requests
  • Work with Insights team to analyze survey results and compile reports for clients detailing ad performance. This helps sales reps and clients identify opportunities and challenges based on feedback from AARP members
  • Organize and consolidate shared research drive to make this resource easier to use

Events and Trade Marketing

  • Assist Associate Director with preparations for annual National Sales Meeting offsite, including welcome kits and any other projects as needed

Operations and Administration

  • Work on special projects for marketing and other departments. Complete other office tasks as needed.

Assist the Marketing Associate with managing and maintaining internal collateral site through Sharepoint, which may include posting materials online and finding/correcting broken or outdated links. 

 


Requirements

Interns must be currently enrolled in a degreed program at an accredited college or university; maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0; and be considered rising undergraduate juniors or seniors. 

AARP also considers non-traditional interns who are looking to re-enter the workforce or change careers.  This may include those who have previously graduated college and are now enrolled in a continuing education program. 

The following skills are highly desired for this internship:

  • Expertise using Microsoft Office skills including PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook and Word;
  • Solid writing and proofreading  skills;
  • Solid analytical and quantitative skills;
  • Ability to pick up new technical skills quickly;
  • Basic knowledge of any programs within Adobe Creative Suite a plus;
  • Can-do attitude;
  • Must work closely with different members of the team to support a broad range of projects and activities, which require analytic, quantitative, organizational and creative skills;
  • Must be proactive and try to seek out solutions to problems individually;
  • Must have ability to prioritize and juggle a broad range of projects;
  • Must be highly responsive, clear and thorough in communications with marketing and sales teams;
  • Must be organized and ability to prioritize with attention to detail a must;
