Integrated Communications is a multimedia, service-focused communications operation that leads in shaping the impression of AARP by providing communications planning, support and execution for AARP’s strategic business units. 



Summary Statement

AARP is seeking a stellar intern to work with its art team for AARP The Magazine.  Candidates will work directly with the art directors in the layout design and production of editorial magazine pages as well as help sending out award submissions. Responsibilities

Candidates will work directly with the art directors in the layout design and production of editorial magazine pages as well as help sending out award submissions.

 The intern will also be working with the magazines photo editors to provide administrative support, learn effective techniques for researching high-quality imagery and gain experience in how photography assignments are directed. Other duties will include maintaining the editorial wall and participating in art meetings.



Requirements

Interns must be currently enrolled in a degreed program at an accredited college or university; maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0; and be considered rising undergraduate juniors or seniors.   AARP also considers non-traditional interns who are looking to re-enter the workforce or change careers.  This may include those who have previously graduated college and are now enrolled in a continuing education program. 

Mandatory Skills:

  • Thorough understanding and proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite software (especially Indesign, Illustrator, Photoshop) on Mac
  • Strong conceptual skills
  • Detail-oriented and well-organized
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong work ethic, positive attitude and eagerness to learn

Optional Skills:

  • Real-world experience in layout and production of print and/or interactive media is a plus
  • DPS skills are a plus
