Summary Statement

The Innovation Associate is a team player and problem solver that will support the operations of AARP’s new innovation lab, work with project teams on the execution of breakthrough concepts, and assist the SVP of Innovation & Product Development with special projects. This person must be highly personable, empathetic, inquisitive, and curious.  This role requires strong attention to detail, project management, multi-team management, and creativity.


Innovation Lab Management

  • Manage the day-to-day operations of the innovation lab, including calendar management, inventory management, internal and external vendor management, event planning, onboarding of new residents, rules enforcement, and driving the innovation culture
  • Conduct tours, support innovation training, and help drive daily working rituals of the innovation lab


Innovation Team Support

  • Participate in i6 innovation sessions, AARP’s innovation methodology, and work toward becoming an i6 session facilitator

Serve as a resource to breakthrough innovation teams, startup residents, and for special projects



This position will require the ability to manage the operations of a physical space, as well as, multiple projects at the same time with limited oversight. This individual must posses a great deal of autonomy in developing day-to-day plans and executing on those plans.  Individual must also be comfortable managing a physical space and have experience with resource allocation and vendor management.


This individual’s responsibilities include the ability to communicate effectively with a broad spectrum of teams that reside at, engage with or support the Hatchery. Management of the physical space, resources and vendors will be imperative.  The diversity of this challenge is wide-ranging in application, as this role may involve multiple business units across the organization. Strong leadership, decision-making, innovation knowledge, communication, and executional skills are required for this position



Financial and budgetary responsibility

·         This position will have no financial or budgetary responsibility

Direction and leadership given to others

·         This position will have responsibility to direct the day-to-day operations of the innovation lab

Regular requirement of directing, reviewing and assigning others work

·         This position will occasionally direct, review and assign work to external vendors

The magnitude of member and/or volunteer interaction and responsibility

This position will have limited interaction and no responsibility for member and/or volunteers


A bachelor’s degree in design, engineering or industry related degree.   Must possess project management, innovation, or operations experience.


The individual must be a clear and creative thinker combined with acute listening skills in order to ensure that team needs are met. This individual will be perceived as the authority on all things Hatchery. As such, this individual must have strong operational, vendor management, and event management experience.
