Integrated Communications is a multimedia, service-focused communications operation that leads in shaping the impression of AARP by providing communications planning, support and execution for AARP’s strategic business units.
As our ICM Media Promotions Graduate intern, you will join a busy team of professionals from whom you will learn and contribute to AARP's mission. You will develop your skills in the following areas:
Project planning and project management;
Crafting promotions plans and strategies;
Executing multi-channel promotion tactics;
Developing print and digital marketing collateral such as flyers, web banners and email blasts;
The planning and execution of events;
Post-project results reporting;
Building strategic partnerships, both internally and with outside entities;
Working in a matrix environment;
Effective business processes.
AARP is seeking a graduate intern to provide support and assistance to the Director of Media Promotions. While the intern will have some independent projects, he or she will collaborate closely with the Director of Media Promotions on all of their work. This position will allow AARP to broaden and deepen efforts to promote AARP’s Movies for Grownups franchise, particularly in the area of resource efficiency and promotion channel efficacy, as well as help support the sales of AARP books through digital promotions. This position will also assist the ECP team in managing and evaluating communications strategies in the ECP communities. The following are part of the responsiblities for this internship:
Marketing and Promotion plans:
Help execute promotion efforts to expand the available email list that is used to market Movies for Grownups screenings
Craft promotion plans for AARP editorial sweepstakes or contests, as needed.
Event planning, logistics, and execution
Support the planning and execution of AARP Movies for Grownups screenings around the country.
Assist in the planning and execution of the Movies for Grownups Awards
Support the launch of the new TV for Grownups initiative, which will include marketing, promotion and events.
Analysis, Reporting and Research
Analyze movies screening event metrics to help develop marketing and promotion strategies for future events.
Assist in results reporting post-MFG screening series.
Research topics upon request of the Media Promotions Director.
Address AARP member calls and emails related to the screenings.
Work directly with AARP staff in state offices and other departments to achieve goals.
Applicants must be currently enrolled in a degreed program at an accredited college or university; maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0; and be considered graduate students, or post doctorate students.
AARP also considers non-traditional interns who are looking to re-enter the workforce or change careers. This may include those who have previously graduated college and are now enrolled in a continuing education program. The following are required and helpful to success in this internship:
Pursuing a Masters degree in Communications, Marketing or related field.
Experience in project management
Experience in marketing and promotions tactics
Event planning and execution experience
Solid customer service abilities
Excellent oral and written communications skills
Proven critical thinking skills
Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment
