Summary Statement

AARP Foundation works to ensure that low-income vulnerable older adults have nutritious food, safe, secure and affordable housing, a steady income, and strong and sustaining social bonds. To address those needs, the AARP Foundation Grants team utilizes grantmaking to seek and advance evidence-based solutions that are guided by a deep level of engagement with AARP Foundation and that can be nurtured, evaluated and brought to scale.

AARP Foundation’s is one of the largest grantmakers in the older adult space.  Yet, not everyone is aware of our work. This affects the awareness of what we do as well as identification of potential programs.



Responsibilities

  1. Grantee Impact Profiles/Website Management – This project would entail gathering information from grantees (directly or via surveys) to write impact profiles which would live on the grants management website and be shared with our leadership team, including the President’s office. In addition, the intern would gather necessary information and work with our communications team to develop a searchable grantee database and create a compelling look for our grants page on AARP Foundation’s website.  

  2. Landscape Analysis – This project would include reviewing the landscape of: (1) funders in the aging space and the ideas/concepts/trends they are focusing on, (2) grantee organizations and the types of projects they are doing in the space, and (3) innovative grantmaking methods or processes being used in the field. Through this work, we will have an understanding of grantmakers and local organizations that are making the biggest impact in meeting the needs of low-income older adults.  The internship will also include interacting directly with the identified organizations in further developing our relationship with them.  The project will also result in a prospective view of low-income older-adult needs and solutions in the future based upon the research.



Requirements

Interns must be currently enrolled in a degreed program at an accredited college or university; maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0; and be considered graduate students.

AARP also considers non-traditional interns who are looking to re-enter the workforce or change careers.  This may include those who have previously graduated college and are now enrolled in a continuing education program.
