Integrated Communications & Marketing is a multimedia, service-focused communications and marketing operation that leads in shaping the impression of AARP by providing communications planning, marketing, support and execution for AARP’s strategic business units.



Summary Statement

The Sr. Editor, Digital Content assists the senior executive editor of digital content in driving and supporting all cross-platform, business/issue digital content initiatives. Also assists the senior executive editor of digital content by contributing to, communicating and executing digital content strategy.



Responsibilities

  • Represents the senior executive editor in cross-platform, business/issue, content planning and DSM meetings as needed; empowered to make important judgments and decisions.
  • Writes, edits and produces topical and compelling digital content of high relevance to AARP audience.
  • Oversees and coordinates digital content producers; can serve as a backup for managing editor for content planning, scheduling and the production process.
  • Directs the development, planning and production of business issue and strategy projects.
  • Works hand-in-hand with special projects editor to prioritize and implement digital content strategy; enforce style, tone and voice across all digital content platforms; and act as quality control agents by reviewing and approving all digital content before publishing.
  • Coordinates with editors, video and social teams to pitch, plan and produce digital content extensions.
  • Coordinates with audience engagement, digital marketing and ad sales to promote digital content packages.
  • Coordinates with audience engagement, product and project development to improve the user experience and present digital content in the best, most innovative ways.
  • Utilizes Omniture and/or Google Analytics to monitor digital content performance and inform planning.
  • Finds, evaluates and recruits a larger, more diverse pool of digital writers.
  • Stays on top of pop culture, news, policy, new platforms, digital trends and innovative ways to present and market content.
  • Tracks, documents & enters our best digital content for annual awards & recognition


Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Digital Media, Journalism, Communications or related field.
  • 10+ years as a managing or deputy editor, or relevant management role.
  • Strong background in journalism -- writing, editing, verbal, analytical, project management and presentation skills – and a proven record of developing stories and storytelling.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, ability to prioritize and multi-task while driving results
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision while contributing to the organization’s goals and objectives.
  • Team player with strong listening and follow-through skills.
  • Working knowledge of online platforms such as Adobe Experience Manager, Adobe Creative Suit, Adobe Site Catalyst, Omniture and Google Analytics.
  • Solid background in SEO best practices.
