Summary Statement

Are you interested in a rewarding internship that will challenge you and help you develop real-world professional experiences?  Join the Experience Corps team in Baltimore,  MD as their intern and be part of a team that is dedicated to improving literacy in children.

Responsibilities

The AARP Experience Corps, Baltimore City branch currently has 291 senior aged volunteer members who provide literacy training to over 6800 Pre-K through 3rd grade students in 29 Baltimore City Public Schools. In order to meet its growth goals, the branch has set an aggressive goal of recruiting 130 new volunteer members for the 2015-2016 school year. The intern will work in a fast paced office work environment that includes dedicated recruitment, program, and field staff all working towards the branch’s recruitment goals. The position provides an excellent opportunity to engage and interact with senior members of the community who are interested in joining the Experience Corps program both within and outside the office setting. In this diversity of settings the intern will be asked to work within the framework of the federally mandated procedures for interviewing and onboarding new volunteers while having a greater deal of autonomy in leading community outreach events and taking a lead advisory role in developing and implementing a digital and social media strategy to support the recruitment program. The quality and success of the internship experience will have a direct impact on the success of the branch’s recruitment goals and its ability to expand its outcome based literacy program to more schools and to children struggling to read at grade level by grade 3. Duties of the intern include the following:

  • Interviewing and onboarding prospective volunteer members;
  • Communicating with prospective volunteer member in person or by phone;
  • Representing the organization in recruitment and community visibility events;
  • Developing a digital and social media strategy to recruit new volunteers;
  • Assiting members, setting-up, managing the online AmeriCorps and volunteer portal, training and setting-up email accounts, contacting the Help Desk to report and resolve problems;
  • Using Sales Force data management platform to enter, track events, recruitment and onboarding data.
